Description

Mountain Stream Blue Guizhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Indigo Dyed Scarf & Shawl. The Miao people have lived among the mountains for generations, and indigo dyeing is woven into everyday life. In the past, Miao women gathered wild indigo plants to make dye for clothing, aprons and head coverings. Traditional Miao head cloths were broad and long, wrapped around the shoulders and neck, forming an early inspiration for the modern shawl. Today, village artisans preserve the traditional dip-dyeing method while using softer modal and a wider fabric format to create an artistic shawl that combines the function of the old head cloth, landscape-like indigo gradients and modern aesthetics.

Craftsmanship: Traditional Guizhou plant-indigo dip-dyeing: the fabric is vertically suspended and gradually immersed in natural indigo dye to create a mountain-and-water gradient from white to deep indigo, without machine printing.
