Description
Miao Heritage Vintage Hand-Embroidered Wristband. In Miao villages, girls traditionally grew up with needle and thread. Without written language in earlier times, motifs served as a visual language and embroidery preserved memory. Fine embroidered pieces once belonged to ceremonial Miao dress and carried the maker’s hopes and years of work. As traditional dress became less common in daily life, many vintage pieces were carefully stored. Contemporary artisans now deconstruct and redesign these textile fragments, cutting and recombining motifs from sleeves and garment edges into lightweight wristbands while preserving traditional stitches and vintage imagery.
Craftsmanship: Uses three traditional Miao embroidery techniques: braid embroidery, knot embroidery and coiled-thread embroidery. Fine colored threads are wrapped, layered and knotted by hand to fill the motifs. No machine stitching or digital printing is used. Vintage embroidered pieces are hand-cut, recombined, edged and joined with elastic webbing.
