Guizhou Miao Embroidery Indigo Kiss-Lock Coin Purse. The blue of Miao villages is the botanical color accumulated through generations in the mountains; Miao embroidery is a wordless history passed down through the community. Miao women traditionally learned indigo dyeing and embroidery from a young age, making plant indigo and stitching butterflies, birds, flowers and auspicious motifs with colorful threads. Small cloth pouches were once hand-sewn to hold small belongings and express care, blessings and wishes for safety. Today, artisans reconstruct vintage indigo homespun cloth and old Miao embroidery into a modern kiss-lock purse, preserving the texture of plant dyeing and the vivid motifs of vintage embroidery.

Craftsmanship: Traditional plant-indigo dyeing uses natural indigo extract from Guizhou mountain plants, repeatedly dyeing and sun-setting the cloth without industrial chemical bleaching or dyeing. Traditional Miao embroidery combines coiled braid embroidery and layered flat embroidery, with no machine printing or machine embroidery. Artisans select vintage pieces, carefully cut and align motifs, hand-sew the lining, reinforce the edges and install a vintage kiss-lock frame.
